1932 Martin C-2S
12 String Guitar
Martin produced a
few flat top 12 string guitars in the teens and twenties which
were not a success. They have not held up well.
This C-2S was the first of four 12 string archtop guitars
produced bewtween 1932 and 1941. These are more solid, and
this one has held up extremely well.
As the "new
Longworth" book says:
"Given the light
construction of it's flattops at the time, adding extra strings
to a C-2 was probably a better choice."
In 1964 Martin produced their first
prototype, X-12, serial #193363, for their successful D-12-20
Dreadnaught.
This guitar was
formerly owned by Mark O'Connor and used for his "False Dawn"
CD.
