Gibson 1906 Style O
Early Gibson tree-of-life 18-inch Gibson Style O carved arched top and
arched back guitar with slotted headstock, and original case.
Restored and refinished, with the headstock and neck
heel repaired, and bracing worked on to prevent the top from
caving. The neck is fat (as is typical).
Serial Number 6779
This guitar is as rare as it gets! A century-old, tree-of-life 18-inch
Gibson Style O. Yes, this is the one you ogle over in vintage guitar
books.
These just-about never appear for sale anymore… they’re locked away in collections.
This one had been restored and refinished before it came into our
possession. It appears the headstock and neck heel were repaired. The
bracing had been worked on to prevent the top from caving. It is
completely stable now.
While it is a sexy guitar, it is not a joy to play… The neck is
fat (as is typical) and the string action is a bit high for our taste
high up the neck. This guitar is more about history. It is hugely
important. It’s body shape is the same as the original legendary
Gibson Super 400 jazz guitar, introduced decades later. In a day when
guitars were typically 12 or 13 inches wide, this thing was a monster,
at 18 inches. The previous owner bought this guitar from Gruhn’s
for $5,000. We are starting it at $3,500 with a Buy It Now of $5,000.
Own a piece of guitar history today… Own a beautiful, super
rare, pearly 18-inch Gibson Style O today. Bid now…
Q: Hi are you sure that the inlays are original to the guitar? Thanks Mar-08-09
A: Yes, they are absolutely original.
Q: Cool guitar! You mention the action is high... is
it in need of a neck reset? Thanks, Charlie Mar-06-09
A: The action is a little bit high, but not high
enought to warrant a neck set. The action is right at 3 1/2 32's at the
12th fret. Thanks!
Q: Does this guitar have a case? Phil Mar-06-09
A: Hi Phil, yes it does have a nice fitting hard shell case, but it's not original to the guitar. Thanks!!!
